Yeah, this is a sad pick. Yesterday I found out that Rev. from DVL, one of my favorite groups, is disbanding at the end of March. While the writing was on the wall, it’s still a disappointment. The group only put out one single last January, one digital single in December, and haven’t put out a concert DVD since 2015. That being said, Rev. from DVL had a lot of great members, put out some consistently great music for a couple of years, and were really fun to watch grow.
Love Arigatou is Rev. from DVL’s big signature song. This is a song they’ve been performing for years in their indie days and carried over to become their first major debut single. It’s a particularly good song, too – while I personally prefer the arrangement of Love Arigatou from their indie days, the new arrangement is good. While the arrangement and instrumentation is pretty typically JPop idol music, the melody and phrasing feels different – the chorus is pretty standard, but there’s an almost jazzy quality to the melody and lyrics of the verses. The lyrics rhyme well, to the point where even the phrasing of the lyrics sounds good, which is a quality I don’t always hear in idol pop music.
While there are other Rev. from DVL songs I prefer (which I will no doubt write about in the future), Love Arigatou is the song that I’m returning to today.
