Song of the Day #16: SKE48 – Aishiteraburu!

While I don’t listen to or write about AKB48 and its sister groups much lately, there were about 2-3 years where I kept a very close eye on AKB48, SKE48 and NMB48. SKE48 in particular always had some solid music, and I still listen to the SKE singles from about 2010 – 2013 pretty regularly. While there are some songs that I think are better (Kataomoi Finally, Banzai Venus, 1! 2! 3! 4! Yoroshiku), Aishiteraburu is one of the most fun songs from SKE48’s discography.

While it’s not particularly original or unique sounding to the 48 discography (it’s very much a summer 48 group song), it has a great pace to it, I love the strong beat the song has, the electric guitar in the arrangement. It’s consistently cheery, upbeat and happy – while songs like Kataomoi Finally are great, Aishiteraburu! is the song you listen to when you want something just in your face with how upbeat it is. It’s even present in the melody – the repeated “I love you” and “aishiteru” lines are just one note, and sung with some force. There’s nothing shy or unsure in this song, there’s no subtlty. It’s just about shouting “I love you” to someone. And sometimes listening to a song like that is pretty great!
